Launch the AutoCollage application and it will scan your Pictures library, find large enough images, and load them on its interface. Click any image on said interface to view a larger preview. Go to the slider in the upper right hand side to choose how many images will be included in your collage. Use the Image Browser from the lower right hand corner to select other images to be used in your collage. Access the Options menu to pick a size for your collage and to play with some other settings.

When you’re happy with everything, click the Create button and AutoCollage will go to work. It will start to generate a collage and will display an interesting animation while it works on it. The end result will be displayed on AutoCollage’s interface and the options to save it locally, send it to someone via email, or set it as the desktop background, will become active.

Microsoft released AutoCollage back in September 2008 – hence the name AutoCollage 2008. A 1.1 update was released in February 2009, update that, among other things, introduced the option to select images for the collage.

The recommend system requirements for running AutoCollage are: 1GHz processor or better; 512MB of RAM or more; 1024 x 768 resolution with 32 bit color or higher; 100MB of free disk space or more; Windows Vista or newer. An installer will help you get AutoCollage up and running on a PC that meets these system requirements.

Please note that AutoCollage is not free, it is only free to try. After you get it up and running, you can use it free of charge for a trial period of 30 days. All the collages you create with the trial will have a watermark on them. To keep using AutoCollage past the 30-day period and to remove the watermark, you will have to purchase a product key and register your copy.

AutoCollage takes your images, blends them together, and comes up with interesting collages.

Pros

The system requirements for running this application are incredibly low. The interface is easy to navigate. There are some settings you can play with and customize the way your collage will look like. AutoCollage will do everything needed to generate a collage and then it will present options to save it locally, set it as the desktop background, or email it to someone.

Cons

Trial limitations: 30-day trial, watermark on output. This tool is from 2008. 2009 if you count the 1.1 update. Some people will like that AutoCollage does all the work, others will feel it’s too automated.
